Anne Miles (Coast Reporter letters, Jan. 22) thinks it is "ludicrous" to involve residents of the Down-town Eastside in the Olympics.

She would do herself a service if she were to acquaint herself with the compassionate and caring program run by the people at Linwood House, in Roberts Creek and in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood.

There is nothing ludicrous about treating people with respect and dignity and giving them an opportunity to display pride in their city and their neighbourhood by becoming involved in the Olympics or any other event to which athletes and visitors from around the world are invited.

As for Mr. Chris Shaw ("Author debunks Olympic myths," Coast Reporter, Jan. 22), well, this letter simply isn't big enough.
