Re: “B.C. man shares ordeal of trying to return home from Mexico,” coastreporter.net, March 12.

I noted the opening sentence of that article with some bemusement, as it could just as well have read, “A Kelowna man’s story of trying to return home from Mexico may serve as a warning to those thinking about returning to the country any time soon.” I could say a few things about Trudeau’s apparently successful effort to pit Canadians against each other, when uniting to condemn his crazy hotel quarantine rules would be more productive, considering that the previous rules seemed to be working quite well. But petulance conquers all, I guess.

I sent a lengthy email to the shadow minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness detailing how Trudeau’s hotel rules actually increase the danger of spreading COVID (confirmed by recent media reports about the nightmare of trying to comply with those rules), not to mention the danger of being sexually assaulted. In my email I also pointed out the increased harm this causes to the Canadian economy. Do you own a business? Does your job depend on a business not going under? Have you considered that hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of Canadians who were initially planning to return to Canada at the end of the winter are either frightened of attempting to do so, can’t afford to do so, or both? And have decided to stay in Mexico or wherever for several additional months, in the hope that the rules will be eased to a level at least approaching sanity after a few months of vaccinations in Canada? And will thus be spending thousands or millions of additional dollars somewhere other than Canada?

Think about it while you’re fuming about the Canadians who left the country despite Trudeau’s whining, not to mention those who left long before Trudeau initiated his threat to punish those who dared to leave.
