Editor:
I recently visited Sechelt and thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and people. However, as a resident of New Zealand that has had some horrific earthquakes in the last two or three years, I am well aware of the destructive power of nature.
I was therefore horrified to observe on a tour around the upper residential areas, retaining walls made from seriously gigantic rocks, piled up ready to roll down the steep slope should there be a seismic jolt.
I understand that the B.C. coast is part of the “Cascadia fault” and well overdue for a big one.
My question is, does the District of Sechelt have any regulations in place to regulate the hazards of earthquakes in regard to the building regulations?
