I would like to encourage anyone who has a newer vehicle and is having issues with rats eating wiring and hosing to make a formal complaint to the Minister of Transportation. The manufacturers do not seem to think this is a problem; however, it is a serious safety issue.
If you are driving on the highway and a partially chewed hose breaks, you could lose control of steering or shifting, etc. If enough formal complaints are made, a recall may be issued to any manufacturer that is using rubber parts that attract rodents. I never had an issue until I bought a new car. I would like to know how much money the manufacturers are making on these replacement parts.
