Sunday, Aug. 11, was a hard day for all of us at the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association (SCDRA).
Unfortunately, a brief but significant rain storm dumped enough precipitation at the Sechelt Airport to force me to make a tough decision. I was saddened to announce the Full Throttle Showdown would have to be cancelled. After 15 years, 27 races and no rainouts, I just didn't feel very good as I stood with microphone in hand delivering my decision.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the racers who spend countless hours working on their cars as they prepare to put on a show for the fans. Of course, like all machinery, pushing the limit of your vehicle costs money.
Thank you to the fans who attend each and every event. Without your support we wouldn't be racing on the Sunshine Coast.
Behind the scenes are the volunteers. They're mowing grass, weed eating, setting up fencing, writing reports, working the concession, ensuring safety on the track, repairing equipment, cleaning up - and the list goes on. You're all the best! Special thanks to our track announcers who make our events more entertaining.
We sincerely appreciate the support of the business community, local media and government who are always there for the SCDRA with sponsorship, donations, lending of equipment, maintenance of facilities and publicizing our events. One more thank you to Coasters Car Club who organized an incredible rod run and car show.
