Re: Davis Bay sea wall changes (Coast Reporter, July 30).

My land, a share in it, is the same share as every other citizen of Sechelt has in our parks, which we all willingly share with those who are here more or less temporarily. Particularly attractive to visitors and to residents is the Davis Bay waterfront.

And it is a piece of that, primarily the parking, that makes it accessible to most of us, that you, Sechelt council, have decided is more valuable to the highways department, to save drivers who don't want to slow down and enjoy the view a few seconds each time they whizz past.

What is Highways promising in return? Not a replacement of our lost land with others of equal value. Did they even promise to do anything in exchange for what the locals want? Did they even promise that no more than 20 spaces would be taken? Are they going to fix the drainage problem caused by past highway improvements at that corner?

No, Highways takes, they never give, so you facilitate another nickel or dime's worth of questionable improvements to further postpone the real dollars needed for a bypass.

No need to expropriate. You should have told them that widening that corner is unnecessary. All that is needed is a cop car parked there.

Shame. Don't do it again, ever.
