Pushback sparks dialogue

Letters

Editor:

So, John Gleeson pushes back on “Green Indoctrination” in schools (Coast Reporter, April 5). But it’s “indoctrination” he’s pushing back on, isn’t it? Not on the fact our planet is warming. He wants kids to think for themselves, doesn’t he? If so, count me among the pushers-back. And here’s why:

It turns out (in my imagination) that one of our school children is stoic enough to forestall a knee-jerk reaction to Gleeson. This sensitive young person regroups and thinks more deeply. She separates herself from the angry mob and re-enters the discussion with a well-considered contribution to the discussion. There’s our next leader.

Pushback spawns dialogue, and, look! It’s working. Our community newspaper is an invaluable forum for these important issues. Let’s keep talking.
