Purpose of signs defeated

Re: “New highway signs on the way,” Feb. 28.

Perhaps I have missed something, but I always thought the purpose of highway signs was to provide useful travel information to the public. Why is it, then, that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans to erect signs which will only confuse locals and tourists alike?

I have no problem with using shíshálh names on these signs, but for goodness sake, put the English name on the top. This is the language understood by most of the travelling public, and the language used on maps and travel brochures.

Let’s hope common sense will prevail!
