I have the pleasure of being one of the volunteers for the candidate of my choice for this upcoming election. With other volunteers I assist in putting up some the signs currently adorning our roadsides. Be assured they will be removed immediately after the election result is known. Because the terrain and nature of the Coast area, the ground is hard and rocky in most places  – not easy to deal with. Teams work hard at trying not to offend in the placement of the signs in any way and in accordance withe legal requirements.

The volunteers who do this job are pleased to do the job and enjoy the friendly waves and comments passed by the many supporters. By the same token we get, on occasion, the sign of thumbs down, vulgar remarks and even the central digit of, usually, the right hand. Just the same, we will give you a friendly wave by return.

This brings me to the point of why we do this and in particular why all eligible voters are able to vote. Firstly we vote for the candidate of our choice. Secondly, in doing so we vote for the party. Thirdly, we are making a vote for maintaining our privilege of being able to vote freely and not at the whim of some murderous despot. Our papers and newscasts are overloaded with the resulting plight of those fleeing from such thugs.

As to why I volunteer as I have mentioned – it’s because I am proud to be a Canadian.
