Politicians out of touch

So the BC Ferries trial is off for now due to backlash from the community. BC Ferries CEO Mark Collins has blamed the cancellation on divisiveness in our community.

Really, Mr. Collins, look a little closer at the conversation. The community is united on this issue as we all agree we need another ferry to ease the congestion in the summer. There is however division, and in my opinion, it is because our politicians are divided from the public they serve.

They voted for this proposal without consulting us on such a critical change. How can they all be so out of touch?

Division is caused when leaders do not listen to their constituents. They push growth and development on us but have failed to convince BC Ferries that the ferry service is unacceptable and that we require another ferry. They somehow think they can keep on welcoming more new residents and tourists while burdening the existing population with inadequate infrastructure, which includes our ferry service. It is time our politicians sit up and take notice and push the B.C. government for an extra ferry and stop agreeing with BC Ferries that this cannot happen while voting on a plan that takes away our freedom to travel as needed.

The people have spoken and for once it is not just a few lone voices that our politicians can dismiss.
