Please remove butts

Letters

Editor:

Like so many other people, we enjoy getting out in this beautifully warm weather, to exercise and enjoy our surroundings.

One of our favourite walks is along the Sechelt waterfront, from Rotary Park to Snickett Park and back.

Unfortunately, due to age and mobility restrictions, our walk has to be interspersed with rest periods and, luckily for us, there are plenty of benches along the way to accommodate this need.

Unfortunately again, some inconsiderate users of these benches have the habit of stomping out their cigarette butts on the ground and leaving the remains where they lay. This makes, for us, an unpleasant experience of either moving them out of the way of our feet, or just leaving them in sight where they are while we are trying to enjoy the ambience of the place.

Smokers, please take your butts away with you and deposit them in your own home, not in a public space. Of course, you should ensure that they are not smouldering, either on the ground or in your pocket, lest they start a fire – that is the last thing we need along our waterfront.
