Perhaps Watts forgot

Letters

Editor:

Dianne Watts, one of the BC Liberal leadership candidates, recently spoke in Sechelt. She promoted views similar to the other candidates for leadership, stretching the truth or perhaps forgetting facts.

She forgot the NDP and Greens both campaigned on a promise of electoral reform when she stated that the government should have asked the electorate whether they wanted electoral reform. In any case, the question of whether to change or keep the electoral system will be posed in the referendum.

Dianne Watts thinks that the bar has been set too low with a 50 per cent plus one votes needed. Oops. She forgot that the BC Liberal leadership will be decided with 50 per cent plus one. Also, to get to that number, a form of proportional representation will determine the party voters’ wishes.

Lastly, Ms. Watts spoke about urban areas having more clout than rural areas. Not so. With proportional representation, all votes, rural and urban, will count. Finally, democracy!
