Re: “Sechelt survey ‘hacked,’ results won’t be released,” March 24.
I’m not sure which is more disheartening: the mayor falsely stating that his survey was “hacked,” or the newspaper running a headline above the fold unquestioningly supporting this patently false claim. One would hope the editorial team would ask, “Is this true?” prior to running such a headline. To demonstrate just how egregious this fake news is, consider: when a local real estate company proposes a development in Sechelt, and a group forms on social media to encourage negative comments on the development, council embraces this commentary as “community feedback” and rejects the development – and all of the jobs and economic benefits that come with it. However, when a social media group forms online encouraging negative comments on the council, it is considered a “hack” and “unverifiable.” Wow, I guess we really like to have it both ways.
