Passengers left behind

Letters

Editor:

Is the public aware that BC Ferries has adopted a new policy on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route of leaving on time, regardless of empty spots on the ferry car deck and how many cars they leave behind?

Travellers who arrive in plenty of time and wait for ages in the parking lot are precluded from getting on board when the captain deems it is departure time. A ferry worker confirmed this policy.

On Tuesday, dozens of vehicles and passengers were left behind in Langdale, while there were at least 10 to a dozen spots empty on the 10:50 ferry!

Is this sensible, to say nothing of fair or even considerate?

Will this government please bring the ferry system back into government control, to its original mandate of providing a marine highway where no other transport option exists? BC Ferries does not exist to make a profit. It is the only public link between the mainland and the rapidly growing peninsula, which we taxpayers support.
