Editor:
Perhaps Jen Mckenzie (“Flip side of rentals,” Letters, June 30) missed my point. I’m sure there are many short-term rental operations on the Coast that impact the neighbourhood in a positive manner, if at all. In my situation, the owners of the rental home live off the Coast, hence no supervision of guests. The entire house is rented and sleeps up to 13 people … read “party house.”
This is what I want people to realize; unless the SCRD puts into place regulations placing limits on, among other things, the number of rooms/persons allowed and requires the owner to be on site, a party house could pop up in any neighbourhood, in your neighbourhood. Reasonable regulation and enforcement does not negatively impact well-run, respectful business in any commercial enterprise.
Therefore I urge anyone who values their “right” to the quiet and peaceful use of their property to check out SCRD.ca/STR, read all the background information, then fill out the survey. Not all short-term rental operators are as respectful and considerate as that described by Jen Mckenzie.
