On Sunday afternoon I was out for a dog walk crossing the Elphinstone backfield, and was aware immediately of how clean the field was. Only a couple days before, the field was crowded with tents, 100 or more of all shapes, sizes and colours. Rising above the sea of colourful nylon tents stood the eye-catching tipi of the plains: stark white, circular and tall. The paddlers, young and old, representing many of B.C.’s indigenous nations, were visitors who slept, ate, met new friends, and joined in circles for three days on the fields. And after they were gone by Sunday afternoon, the field was so empty, so spotless. It was as though the hundreds of people had never been there.
So I’d like to compliment the youth, the supporting adults and the hosts for taking such amazingly good care of the grounds. Paddles up! And may your entrance into Vancouver Harbour on July 14 stand out as a spectacular highlight of the summer of 2017.
