Editor: Your last two issues featured articles lamenting the lack of accountability and standards for counsellors and therapists in British Columbia. This is not quite accurate. Registered social workers are regulated by the Health Professions Act and are more than capable of providing excellent individual and group therapy. Indeed, we must pass a rigorous exam for registration as general and clinical social workers. Social workers hold private practices for counselling across the Sunshine Coast and B.C. We have oversight from our provincial College of Social Workers and maintain a professional association as well. You can rest assured that when you seek the services of a registered social worker, your safety and care is paramount. Cayce Laviolette, MSW RSW Treasurer, BC Association of Social Workers |
