Our voices don’t matter

Letters

Editor:

I am always impressed to hear almost all Gibsonites who give their opinion at so-called feedback meetings and town halls, to find that the retirees who moved here to avoid high density and traffic chaos speak passionately about their wishes to maintain the OCP, reasonable traffic flows without congestion caused by confusing bike lanes, tidy single-family homes and orderly neighbourhoods.

Council spoke very pointedly on June 19 to tell those retirees, semi-retirees and those who moved to Gibsons for a more peaceful way of life, quality water supply, and traffic that actually travelled in a reasonable courteous manner, that their voices and votes don’t really matter. They, the majority, all four councillors, announced that they will move in a direction solidly opposed to those who pay the majority of the tax roll, in what they perceive as more people packed into smaller spaces moving at higher speeds in a chaotic state.

For those councillors and town planners who subscribe to the “Gregor Robertson School of High Density and Bike Lanes,” have you really analyzed why most of those who move here really came here? Certainly not for the “vision” you are pushing us toward.

The municipal elections are coming. For those fellow Gibsonites who have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming election, it is time for us to make certain that the opinions we have tried to articulate at those recent meetings are heard through the election process.
