I feel the need to reply to “Rules of the Road” (Letters, July 14) as it was written in response to my original letter on this subject. I am very aware of the “rules of the road” and which side I should be walking on. I only wish most cyclists were too. However, on many roads on the Sunshine Coast, there is absolutely no shoulder on one side and a wide path on the other. My attempts to stick with the “rules of the road” and walk on the no shoulder side have resulted in some scary situations. Vehicles do not and can not always go around me. So now I take the common sense and safer approach and use the path. So, my original point and request still stands: cyclists should alert pedestrians no matter what the situation.
