Editor:
As recently resigned president of the West Howe Sound Community Association (WHSCA), I am greatly disappointed and saddened by Elizabeth Rains’ Fox News-style article (“Community association directors resign after flap,” June 1), which is nothing more than gossip and innuendo.
Keeping the reason for my resignation out of the public was because I felt it did no service to Mark Hiltz or the association. It would personally do me no damage whatsoever. I had hoped Ms. Rains, also as a director of the WHSCA (interestingly not disclosed in her article), would have had a greater concern for the association and its community members than lowering herself to tabloid reporter. At its worst, it’s a conflict of interest and calls into question her journalistic integrity.
I take issue with Ms. Rains reporting a very one-sided and, in my opinion, biased article. I did ask her how she planned to write this article when she didn’t have my side of things, the full story.
Though there is apparent community interest in “having a backyard that adjoins” mine, previous directors Dick and Pratt (still married, thankfully) have also been named in such a way that says nothing, but implies much. Loyalty and honour are to be admired and will, hopefully, be qualities present in all future candidates for Area F director.
The breadth of the disservice done here by a total lack of discretion and care for the community is truly disappointing. I, however, cannot express warmly enough a heartfelt thank you to all those who have reached out to me since this article was published. The support has been truly amazing.
