Big thanks for Ian Jacques' editorial on the Sunshine Coast's path to zero waste (Coast Reporter, March 8).

His warning to citizens is very appropriate in the face of the double challenge from government and industry to control recycling in British Columbia, which pose a direct threat to local governments, citizens and small businesses, and the environment.

Just like folks here in the U.S., Jacques is asking questions. So far we have not gotten any answers. I hope the editorial stimulates some answers and discussions as to why a community on the path to zero waste needs to abdicate to the very corporations that produce the materials that end up in the waste stream.
