Sechelt Mayor and Council:
As an owner and long-time resident of Sechelt, I have been very much concerned about our village, its future developments in particular.
The Ocean Stories development, introduced (and also rendered by an artist) over a year ago, has been endorsed not only by myself but many other residents alike, except the height of the condominium.
At a recent meeting, the developer confirmed the height as eight storeys and a loft, meeting the 25-metre zoning allowance. It would now top out at 24.09 metres (just over 79 feet).
However, when you factor in the elevation of the property at 43.5 metres, together they top out 67.6 metres (222 feet), which far exceed the roofs of Chatelech Secondary School on the summit of the hill above Sechelt. The condominium tops will also tower 10 times higher than the elevation of Sechelt village, being eight metres above the sea.
Based on these facts, please consider a serious review of such a drastic change from the originally proposed development. I believe that, together with us residents, the council also cherishes our village, so much appreciated by the people coming here every year to relax.
Soon we will be welcoming people from the Lower Mainland in our quaint village with its established character. However, they will not like such high storeys dominating over the entire area, reminding them what they left behind in the cities.
