Notable accomplishments

Letters

Editor:

Well done, Bruce.

You, at times with the support of the council you lead, have evidently engineered several notable accomplishments in the last year or so:

• Abandonment of Sechelt as the general location and indefinite postponement of the desperately needed expansion of long-term care facilities on the Coast.

• Export to Gibsons of funding and a proper housing facility for local residents with serious housing challenges.

• The value of permanent renovation, but only a two-year, off-season lease on a facility to replace what St. Hilda’s has been doing for the homeless; still with no accommodation suitable for women.

• Creation of a third park within stone throws of two others, to the exclusion of residences that would house citizens needing homes and park space.

• I don’t know her reasons for resigning now, but surely your egregious underfunding of Sechelt library services contributed to our loss of the professional leader who has done wonders for the vitality and value of this service to the community in the four short years she has been here.

Of course “budgetary reasons” can be cited for all of these, absent supporting analysis of the revenues foregone, sunk costs abandoned, actual tax dollars saved or not and whose taxes are involved, nor, of course, the intangible but important values to residents of the neglected services.

I can’t wait to see what you do for an encore.

Henry Hightower, Sechelt
