No water to waste

Re: “Water-meter loan AAP fails,” July 27.

When I read that Mr. Goudie and others think the focus should be on increasing water supply before spending on conservation, I thought that this must be a typo.

Water meters will increase the supply as a significant amount of water is lost through undetected leaks. Conservation, whether of water, fuel or any other resource, is an attitude that we in the privileged world have to take to heart if we are to survive on this rapidly changing planet – our home.

Most of us in the industrial world turn on a tap and expect an endless supply of clean, safe water. This is not how hundreds of millions of fellow humans experience life. We are the fortunate few.
