Editor:
The one good thing about this year’s water rationing is that it has served to expose the negligence of our mayors and regional directors on this critical file. They are still in denial and reduced to employing the global-warming bogeyman as an excuse for their failures when the reality is we live in a rainforest with abundant water left to run to the sea. It is their own plan that identifies water rationing as the solution for shortages. Their long-term goal is to achieve a 90 per cent reduction in household water use. The increasing rate of rationing roughly equals the rate of population growth – how do you like that for an excuse to continue doing nothing on the supply side?
It is interesting to hear that they have developed a hierarchy of water use for us. We have now reached closure of ice-rinks – it’s frightening to imagine what they have planned for us with full rationing with water meters. You can’t help but envision that we are dealing with eco-Marxists sitting there tightening the tap with glee. They refuse to contemplate accessing the large nearby river system with a reservoir staring them in the face. Cost is not relevant – apparently it is just wrong.
These people are not acting rationally. It is pointless to attempt to reason with them at this stage. We simply must plan to do away with them next fall and get this water issue on track for solution. Our local paper won’t be much help – the editor thinks that the closure of the ice-rink was a sports story, but that’s all right, I am confident the voters will have sufficient memory.
