In ELF’s information ad from last week, regarding Sunshine Coast Community Forest logging operation having three cutblocks planned in the Mt. Elphinstone Park expansion area, the amount of remaining mature forest written about needs to be corrected. Please note that the statement “one third is still unlogged” is incorrect. The correct figure is that two thirds of the forests in the park expansion area remains unlogged – in other words, remains in its natural condition. This makes a big difference, as good amounts of natural forests remain that can be added to the three existing small parks. Logging them out is unacceptable. An expanded Mt. Elphinstone protected area is the best, and last chance to secure a common legacy of this low-elevation biodiversity and to benefit future generations here on the lower Sunshine Coast.
