MLA’s comment spot on

Letters

Editor:

This letter was sent to Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons.

I wish to commend you for your exactly on-point comment in Coast Reporter on the complete lack of common sense and total selfishness of those who think that they are somehow special and the recommendations by Dr. Henry and Mr. Dix to NOT use this long weekend to visit the Sunshine Coast or any other small, remote community.

However, it’s clear that the entitled of the Greater Vancouver area have decided that they don’t really need to follow recommendations and that it’s OK to put me (an asthmatic senior), my family, my friends, and my community at risk of our lives so that they can vacation here on the Coast. IT’S NOT OK. And it’s time for your party, which thankfully has power right now, to take the necessary steps to enforce travel restrictions to prevent casual and unnecessary trips to remote areas. There need to stringent and enforced penalties for those who willfully put others at risk of death. This is not a game we’re playing.

You have the power. Please use it to save all our lives so that we can welcome part-timers and vacationers to our lovely Coast again.
