Meters save water

With another AAP for water meters in Sechelt coming up, it’s a good time to write about our experience with water meters in the Town of Gibsons.
Shortly before the pandemic started, I was informed by the town that we had very high water consumption and might have a leak. There was no sign of water anywhere, but the meter indicated we were using 160 liters per hour. I ended up having to dig up the service line to find the leak and replace the line.
Over the course of four months we lost nearly half a million litres of water.

Without the water meter we would never have discovered the leak and it would have gone on for years, wasting millions of litres every year.
Water meters are the best and most cost-effective source of supply, with Gibsons having reduced per capita water consumption by more than 50 per cent between 2009 and 2018, according to the town’s website.

It’s 2021, and no one should be wasting our precious water through ignorance of how much is being used.

Hopefully this AAP will pass and we will soon have water meters across the Sunshine Coast.
