Meters not as billed

Letters

Editor:

According to the SCRD’s Water Meter FAQ document, “It is common for communities to realize a reduction in water consumption of 20 per cent to 30 per cent after the installation of water meters. The reduction is attributed to the detection and repair of leaks in the water system as well as customers’ change in water consumption behaviour.” Well, if that were even close to true – as the SCRD promised us when this whole thing started – we should NOT again be in Stage 4 at the end of August. In fact, in 2017, we didn’t enter Stage 4 until October. So, all those millions spent on installing meters in the rural areas seemingly has not helped the situation one bit. I’m very angry at this SCRD board and the previous ones for so thoroughly mismanaging our water storage; my vegetable garden is even more upset.

(Note: I’m in favour of metering – after the storage problem is dealt with!)
