Mayor and Council:
Re: Vacant lots at Cowrie Street and Trail Avenue.
Having read the report in Coast Reporter on March 31 with regard to the new building proposal for this site, may I suggest that there may be an opportunity here for a fresh vision? Give Sechelt a “new face.”
This location is central to the downtown core, an “important corner,” as noted by the headline in the Coast Reporter article.
This site would make an ideal situation for a new municipal hall, easily accessible to pedestrians, bus travellers, and the handicapped, with ample local parking.
Such a new proposal made by the mayor and council may interest the developers, given the possibility of the building being leased back to the District of Sechelt – an ideal tenant, of course – with some changes to the design, to reflect the use of municipal offices.
I do not consider any kind of housing appropriate adjacent to the inevitable noise and activity that goes with a fire hall. In addition, this is a business street, no longer residential.
The existing municipal hall location could then be turned over to the library, which is planning a much needed expansion.
