Set serious climate policy

Letters

Editor:

The letter was sent to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Trudeau government’s climate policy, or lack of policy, has been a huge disappointment. How can you stick to energy policies and targets inherited from Harper?

Mr. Trudeau, you have a family: aren’t you concerned about how you are shaping their future? I am frightened for my children and their children, and even for myself over the last few years, seeing dying trees, water shortages, fires; and even more frightening, there already seem to be signs of thinner shells on our seafood. (I trust you are aware of ocean acidification due to increased CO2 dissolving in seawater, making survival harder for anything with a shell. Among these are microscopic bases of food webs. Cascading effects of this are unknown, but collapses of marine ecosystems are predicted. Along with food, we get most of our oxygen from healthy seas. Do you consider such a side effect of your energy policy to be acceptable?)

I beg you to commit Canada to serious climate targets before the COP25 climate conference. It’s the least you can do.
