Romania, which has Europe’s largest population of large carnivores. recently banned all trophy hunting of brown bears, wolves, lynx and wild cats. This has happened in spite of hunting being a multi-million-euro industry in Romania with hunters from all over the world willing to pay up to $11,000 US to claim a trophy. This is one of the poorest countries in the EU with a GDP less than British Columbia’s and an average person getting by on one-quarter of what a British Columbian gets by on.
B.C. has the largest remaining population of large carnivores in North America. Surely we can follow Romania’s lead.
