New highway nightmare

Letters

Editor:

Re: “Director misguided on 101” by Gary Pennington, Letters, May 31.

Does not Dr. Pennington understand what unintended effect a new or improved highway would have on our residents? Does he not understand that the repeated replies from the provincial transportation ministry show that such a highway is not on their list of priorities?

Imagine the resulting chaos at the ferry terminals. Where would the resulting visitors stay? We can’t even supply water for our residents to water their gardens and even perhaps fill our swimming pool. Think of the effect it would be on rentals when owners would convert to Airbnb?

The only result would be that one could drive in 25, rather than 40 minutes to the ferry terminal where one could wait for four hours for the next one.

Dr. Pennington’s recent letter signed G. Orbell (“Highway too hazardous,” June 7) speaks of fast traffic. My problem is slow traffic – someone travelling at 50 km/h rather than the posted 80.
