Headline makes me laugh

Editor: Oh dear. Poor Santa. I hope he wasn’t injured when he hit the ground (“Council votes to drop Santa from the municipal hall roof,” Nov. 13) . After all, he has a big job to do very soon.

Hard to believe this headline slipped by your highly competent crew – or was it written on purpose to cheer us up on a Friday the 13th?

With all the depressing news these days, and increased isolation imposed once again due to COVID-19, a good laugh is a precious thing. This headline makes me laugh heartily every time I think of it.

Thanks, CR.

On a more serious note: Darnelda, if Sechelt has $4,500 it could afford to spend on installing a lit-up Santa, may I suggest that a far more useful way of showing your “community spirit at Christmas time” would be to spend it in ways that provide practical assistance to some of the people who are struggling.
