Bias of the status quo

Letters

Editor:

It is easy to see why the status-quo folks would prefer to keep the flawed first-past-the-post election system, given that it is heavily biased in their favour. With only two or three political parties, who keep acting in the same exploitative and destructive manner, the idea of a different system is anathema to them.

The suggestion that pro-rep threatens us with possibly extreme politicians seems to me to be laughable, in view of the premiers, both provincially and federally, Canada has voted for in the past few decades under the first-past-the-post system.

Perhaps a wider, more diverse platform that pro-rep could provide would give a truer picture of what many voters would like to see in all three levels of government in Canada.
