Whoever bought the full-page attack on an “un-named” kennel asks for public input, so here’s mine. This hodge-podge of invective directed at the kennel and its hardworking owners comes close to slander. A map supplied looks sort of like the place I take my dog. By the way, he loves to go there because he has a wide social circle beyond mine. I know that when he is there he is well-looked after by people who like him, like dogs and like animals in general. I feel secure knowing that he is safe and happy in their care. I have been taking him there for 15 years.
This kennel – and there are very few on the Coast – provides an essential service for folks like me who occasionally need to travel to the city for medical appointments or cultural events and need somewhere safe to leave my pet – a member of my family. Others I know drop off their pets because they work during the day and rely on this service. Some people actually like to take holidays and can travel knowing that their furry family member is in safe hands.
Whoever wrote the page of invective should have done a little research before buying a property next to an established kennel. If they had a dog, they would know Easter is not a holiday the dog calendar recognizes. They would know that you can tell a dog not to bark after 6 p.m., when power tools shut down, but the dog may bark anyway, especially if a bear is within sniffing distance.
I am surprised that the Coast Reporter has accepted money so that anonymous “neighbours” can air their personal grievances. What are your standards for advertising anyway? Can anybody slander anybody as long as they pay you cash? They don’t even have the courage to sign their names to this hate-salad.
