There are some interesting and nicely scaled developments scheduled for Lower Gibsons. Some clearing has already taken place and along with that, loss of bird habitat. It is noticeable how much less bird song there is along the seawall now. When building, it would be excellent if developers took into consideration what ecosystems have been lost and with some thoughtful planting of indigenous plants and trees, return some of the habitat for the birds.
It is easy to find out what attracts local birds, Hawthorn, Nootka roses, Oregon grape, red alder, Pacific crabapple, and Kinnikinnick are a few. By including these there can be spaces for both humans, and the birds that have been migrating through for eons.
