Letters: Where’s Simons in crisis?

I, along with pretty much everyone else on the Coast, have been diligently conserving water and reading the articles and letters about our dwindling water supply with great interest and dismay. From my understanding, the Church Road well is not yet online because we are waiting for the province to issue a licence. Various groups, including the SCRD board, are hoping to secure meetings with various provincial officials, including the premier, to “discuss” the dire situation we are in. Throughout all this, and this current water crisis has been going on for weeks already, our own MLA Nicholas Simons has been missing in action. Has the Coast Reporter reached out to him for comment? Has anyone from the SCRD contacted him for his help since he represents this riding and is a member of the governing party? Why hasn’t he stepped up for his constituents, shown some leadership and taken up our cause to his bosses in Victoria and helped to expedite the issuance of the necessary licence and secure those critical meetings? This water crisis is a matter of life and death, of health and safety, of sustaining our food supply and our economy. At this time of greatest need, Nicholas Simons has so far shown himself to be as inadequate as our water supply.
