Letters: We have freedom

Editor:

Our Dad and two of his brothers joined the Expeditionary Forces in the First World War. Dad survived with injuries, his brothers both died at the Somme (France) at 21 and 24 years of age.

My first cousin was badly injured in Ortona, Italy during the Second World War.  These men were asked to go to war.  We were asked to stay home and wear a mask.

My cousin, although in severe pain for the rest of his life, without complaining, went on to get a law degree, became Parliamentary secretary to Lester Pearson, was on the Flag Committee and designed the Order of Canada.  These men all fought for our freedom and the freedom to protest.

If you don’t want the vaccine or the mask, I suggest that you do not wrap yourself in our beautiful flag and say you are doing so for your freedom.

You have freedom. The majority of Canadians think we do. Why traumatize health care workers and others who are following our health guidelines? You have a vote. We do not want the misguided few to bring U.S. Trump style extremism into our country.
