There are several reasons why there is no need for water meters. We can detect pipeline leaks by using ground penetrating radar. It is very effective and cheap to use and can be done when and where needed. It is really only for the summer months that water restrictions come in effect, which is quite tolerable. Also, the additional wells the SCRD has been drilling and spent a lot of money on should soon supply additional water. The SCRD should also reel in the nine per cent that use 38 per cent of the water.
We have a large retired population who are often living on a basic pension, are not flush with money and struggle to pay the high taxes. So why needlessly borrow $7.25 million and add to the taxes?
