This letter was sent to local governments on the Sunshine Coast.

I am not a climatologist or a meteorologist. I have been living on the Sunshine Coast for the past 16 years and by hiking, have covered most of the land on the lower Sunshine Coast. I am wondering when the municipalities and the SCRD will wake up to the dire state of our coast.

The land is dry, the waterfalls have become diminished a great deal, and the forests are literally disappearing day by day. It’s time to come to the realization that we will be desperate for water.

The two short-term solutions that I see are to firstly stop all building on the Coast and to find other water sources. Logging in our forests needs to come to a complete stop. At this time, we are fortunate that we haven’t had major fires in our area but they are just waiting to happen with all the dead wood as fuel where forests once stood.

In the hope that action will be taken immediately and that I be one of the many voices awakening to the situation.
