Letters: Valentine’s thank you to health care workers

Editor:

Two long years!

March will mark the two-year anniversary of COVID in our community and around the world.  To say it has been a tough two years is a huge understatement.

Illness, death, fear and perhaps most unsettling, the growing tensions between the mandate, masks, vaccines supporters and those who do not support these measures, has left an indelible mark on our society.

Through it all, our front-line healthcare workers have continued to serve us in an extremely difficult environment. They come to work every day knowing full well that they are going to have to treat COVID patients and deal with the uncertainty of not knowing if they will be able to avoid contracting it, despite all the precautions.

I recently had a six-day stay in Sechelt hospital (not COVID related). I was overwhelmed by the professionalism, energy and hard work of all the staff, from the housekeeping, food services teams to the clerks, nurses and doctors. Even when the workload seemed impossible, they kept their composure and cared for patients with kindness and compassion.

I had permission from the hospital to show my thanks this Valentine’s Day, but wanted to publicly acknowledge the amazing efforts of our healthcare workers through this letter to the editor.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
