Letters: ‘Urban infill’ is not for West Sechelt

Rezoning application for 6401 Apple Orchard Road.

Editor:

Thank you to District of Sechelt Council on not summarily approving the application to rezone the property at 6401 Apple Orchard Sechelt from low density to “urban infill.”

The neighborhood did not buy into the area only to have the district go against the wishes of and protect the rights of property owners from marauding developers. The increase in value that the developer will realize if rezoned is obscene and local governments are supporting this.

Rezoning does not provide affordable housing. In my view it should have be turned down immediately, hopefully, the “public hearing” process will send a message loud and clear that “urban infill” is meant for the Village area and not West Sechelt. And the council is here to represent the owners who are affected directly by this blatant abuse of the zoning bylaws.
