Get proactive! It’s urgent! A population surge of demographic diversity. Give us the long-term plan for major infrastructure investment required to ensure now a strong stable economy. Please stay clear of politics or listening to social media noise. Tune in the Coast Reporter, they deliver weekly local reporting.
Coast Reporter published your letter May 30. A very interesting read on many levels. Five councillors signed? One councillor missing. It was a bit abnormal based on DOS meeting history of recorded votes. The record reveals our six councillors’ habit (with the odd exception) is to vote as a block and in the opposite direction of the mayor.
In your letter you endorse the audit author completely. It indicates no blame on staff and councillors? The malfunctioning seven-person council mess implies the elected mayor is at fault? That this is alarming to we the voters is an understatement. We as neighbors and friends voted seven individuals to council as professionals to make good decisions and put community needs first. Your letter ending was a refreshing commitment, “rebuilding community trust, openness, respect, and collaboration –– the residents of our District deserve nothing less.” We agree and it is a good start.
Now that you raised the audit publicly. We residents have questions and thank-you in advance for your answers in a response letter to the editor: Was staff responsible for the bid competition? How many bids were received? Who negotiated the audit contract awarded to who? Is the audit now paid and logged against 2024 or 2025 budget and at what cost?
Your renewed efforts to serve and deliver community needs will definitely build our trust and respect.
