This is a heads up for ferry users. One of our relatives had booked a reservation to return from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay on the Monday of the Labour Day weekend but due to a family emergency actually went home a day earlier on the Sunday. Several weeks later, she received a notice from BC Ferries that she was being charged a $20 fee for not using her reservation. I couldn’t believe this as missing the reservation could have happened for a number of reasons such as traffic delays due to road construction or a highway accident.
I guess she might have been entitled to refund on her reservation if she cancelled but I’m not sure. I consider that once you reserve that’s your spot and so what if you don’t use it. All it means is another car without a reservation gets on.
I look at this as just another money grab. Could you imagine if you had two Canucks tickets worth three hundred dollars you couldn’t use for some reason (perhaps the ferry had mechanical issues and missed a number of sailings). Would the Canucks be entitled to charge you $100 for not using your tickets? Of course not.
I look at this as a lesson learned and thought it a good idea to make readers aware.
