Letters: Understand where we live, here on the Sunshine Coast

'I’ve never thought of myself as an earwig for thinking of the Coast’s communities as having intrinsic values that are worth caring about. Mr. Hulme might find it useful to visit our terrific museums and read some local history to understand a little more about the place where he lives.'

I don’t know where Brian Hulme thought he was moving to when he came to the Sunshine Coast 10 years ago but I certainly knew when I came in 1980 that this was a peninsula accessible by ferry or plane. When my husband and I came here in 1980, we knew exactly where we were, geographically, historically, and culturally. It’s why we chose the Coast. It’s been a wonderful place to live, to raise our children, to work, to contribute to local initiatives.

I’ve never thought of myself as an earwig for thinking of the Coast’s communities as having intrinsic values that are worth caring about. Mr. Hulme might find it useful to visit our terrific museums and read some local history to understand a little more about the place where he lives.
