Letters: Too early to lift ban

I was extremely upset to hear that campfire bans are being lifted in coastal B.C. with the exception of the south Island.

There are areas on the Sunshine Coast which are still in extreme fire risk. And the remainder of the Sunshine Coast is at high risk. Coupled with the fact that most of the lower Sunshine Coast is in a water emergency situation.

I would really like to know why it was deemed necessary to lift the ban, just prior to the long weekend.

Why not keep the ban in effect until we get significant rain?

Is it really worth the risk?

With climate change and heat events becoming our new reality, maybe it’s time we rethink campfires as an essential part of the outdoor experience.
