Letters: The poetic wisdom of Thoreau

Editor:

I have just returned from a walk with my giant Bernese puppy, Paddy, up through the woods on the acreage upon which our home rests.  I cannot imagine a more valuable way to spend my time.

The fragrances of the forest, the choir of birdsong, and the verdant greens of the trees, ferns, and bushes, shared with my canine companion, all provide a welcome antidote to the fast-paced life that faces us even here on the Sunshine Coast.

The preeminent American philosopher, Henry David Thoreau, had is so right when he. wrote:

“Ah, dear nature, the mere remembrance, after a short forgetfulness, of the pine woods!  I come to it as a hungry man to a crust of bread.”
