Many people on the Sunshine Coast donate some of their time to an organization or society that they feel helps to improve or enhance life for others. The extent of their membership and active support might vary depending on the society as well as the individual’s personal situation.

I would like to draw your attention to the extraordinary donation of time and money, both given generously, by Karen Careless to the Gibsons Landing Heritage Society (GLHS), the group responsible for the establishment of the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.

I first knew Karen from a time when we were both working for the local school district and I knew her to be a concerned and active member in our community.

In the 1990s, Karen sat as a director on the GLHS board as the group worked tirelessly to generate financial support for this major project. After the successful opening of the Playhouse in the year 2000, Karen continued her involvement with the GLHS to this present day.

Driftwood Players also benefited from Karen’s commitment. She appeared on stage in several productions and continued to help behind the scenes. Her name appeared regularly in programs as box office manager.

Now, as she decides to take her leave as a director, I should like to join the many others in our community who say: “Many thanks, Karen, for your generosity in time and money; many thanks for your steadfast commitment to the success of the Heritage Playhouse and many thanks for just being you!”
