Letters: Stop the painted rocks

Editor:

As a daily walker through our local forests, I have noticed the trend of painting small rocks with images and messages and leaving them in nature.

Although slightly annoying to those of us who appreciate the beauty of nature, I’ve assumed that it was the work of children and their parents and that these rocks can at least be removed and taken home. However, on a recent walk on Bonniebrook Beach I noticed that someone has taken this trend to the next level. A beautiful outcrop of sea carved granite and quartz rock, the delight of many a walker on Bonniebrook Beach, has been marred with a series of childish paintings and splashes. This has crossed a line and is no longer cute or fun. Those tempted to do this please find another way to express your creativity. Nature is not our property to decorate as we please.
